The product comes with batteries pre-installed, and LR44/AG13 batteries are required for further use. Though the sounds cannot be turned off, the batteries can be removed. Some customers have experienced issues with the screws being stripped, but if you pay attention to the unique shapes and follow the instructions, it will not be an issue. A few customers have had issues with the screws coming off, but the majority of purchasers are satisfied with the KidsKraft set.
